Study Tour – Department of Management and Entrepreneurship

The Department of Management and Entrepreneurship organized an educational field visit on 26th November 2025 to Shangri-La Hambantota and Maheero Banana Fiber, focusing on key themes such as tourism entrepreneurship, social and green entrepreneurship, sustainability, green practices, and eco-friendly business innovation. The visit was conducted for 3000-level Entrepreneurship specialization students.
The study tour aimed to provide students with practical exposure to how sustainability-driven business models operate in real settings. At Shangri-La Hambantota, students explored sustainable tourism operations, including waste reduction initiatives, eco-friendly resource management, and community engagement practices. This allowed them to observe how large-scale hospitality ventures integrate environmental responsibility into daily operations. At Maheero Banana Fiber, students witnessed an inspiring example of green entrepreneurship, where agricultural waste is transformed into value-added handicrafts and sustainable products. This visit highlighted the importance of circular economy practices, rural entrepreneurship, women’s empowerment, and environmentally conscious production. Through this hands-on experience, students gained valuable insights into modern production processes, sustainable innovation, and the practical application of management theories in real business environments.
