Head of the Department

Welcome to the Department of Accountancy, one of the six academic departments of the Faculty of Management and Finance at the University of Ruhuna. Since its establishment in 2003, alongside the inception of the Faculty, the Department has played a pivotal role in nurturing competent accounting professionals and future business leaders. With the establishment of the Department of Finance in 2021, the Department of Accounting and Finance was renamed the Department of Accountancy, reflecting its specialized focus and continued commitment to excellence in accounting education.

The Department proudly offers the Bachelor of Business Administration Honours in Accounting Degree Programme (BBAHons (Acc)), which continues to attract a large cohort of high- achieving students each year. The curriculum integrates strong theoretical foundations with applied learning components, enabling students to develop both conceptual understanding and practical competencies aligned with the evolving needs of the accounting profession, business sector, and public service. A key feature of the programme is the structured internship embedded in the final year, which provides students with meaningful engagement in real-world organizational settings. This experience allows them to apply academic knowledge in practice while developing essential professional skills and workplace awareness. In parallel, many students pursue professional qualifications offered by recognized professional bodies alongside their degree studies. This dual pathway strengthens their technical proficiency and enhances their readiness for successful careers in both local and international employment markets.
