The session was held on 22nd May 2026  from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. at MFLT 03, Faculty of Management and Finance.

The session was facilitated by Dr. Deepal A. Guruge, Head of the Department of Accountancy, Faculty of Management and Finance. With his strong academic background and dedication to student development, Dr. Guruge guided participants through meaningful discussions and interactive learning activities aimed at strengthening their communication confidence. more

Guest Lecture on “Legal Issues in Digital Business” – LEXIFY’25

The Department of Management and Entrepreneurship successfully hosted a guest lecture titled “Legal Issues in Digital Business” under the theme LEXIFY ’25 – Where Law Meets the Digital Frontier on 12 th November 2025 at MFLT 03B, Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna.
The session was conducted by Mr. Samantha Jayasundara, a senior lawyer, who delivered an insightful and interactive discussion on the legal and ethical dimensions of operating within today’s digital economy. Key emphasis was placed on the importance of legal compliance, intellectual property in digital environments, cybersecurity preparedness, and practical strategies for managing cyber risks. Students gained valuable exposure to the legal frameworks that guide digital business operations and explored practical examples illustrating how organizations can safeguard their digital presence against emerging threats. more

ACCA Accredited Exemption for the BBA Honours in Accounting Degree Program

The Department of Accountancy is pleased to highlight that the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) has granted formal examination exemptions to students enrolled in the Bachelor of Business Administration (Hons) in Accounting degree program. Students are granted exemptions from selected subjects at both the Applied Knowledge and Applied Skills levels, including Business Technology, Management Accounting, Corporate and Business Law, and Financial Reporting.

As a result, students will be able to bypass selected ACCA examinations, enabling them to progress more efficiently towards full professional qualifications. This achievement not only enhances the academic value of the degree but also strengthens students’ pathways toward global professional recognition, reinforcing the Department’s commitment to producing highly competent and industry-ready accounting graduates.

CMA Accredited Exemption for the BBA in Accounting Degree Program

The Department of Accountancy is pleased to highlight that the Institute of Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka (CMA Sri Lanka) has granted official examination exemptions for students enrolled in the Bachelor of Business Administration Honours in Accounting Degree Program. The program grants full exemptions from all subjects at the Certificate and Operational Levels, as well as selected subjects at the Managerial Level, including Corporate Reporting Assurance and Advanced Taxation and Corporate Law.
The exemptions enable students to progress more efficiently through the professional qualification pathway by waiving selected examinations, thereby accelerating their journey toward becoming qualified management accountants.

The Department of Marketing, Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna successfully conducted an insightful guest lecture titled “Consumer Insights into Sales Success: Real-World Applications in the Auto Industry” on 26th May 2026 via Zoom for Marketing undergraduates

The session was delivered by Mr. Sandun Thennakoon, Senior Manager, New Vehicle Product/Sales at Toyota Lanka. He shared valuable industry experiences and practical insights into how consumer behavior influences successful sales strategies in the automobile industry.
The lecture mainly focused on the practical application of consumer insights in sales generation, with special emphasis on identifying and addressing the emotional factors that influence consumer purchasing decisions. Students gained a deeper understanding of how theoretical concepts of consumer behavior are applied in real-world marketing and sales environments

The Department of Business Management has initiated a professional development program aimed at enhancing the professional and technological skills of its students through a series of workshops conducted with the full commitment and support of the faculty’s academic staff.
The program officially commenced on 14 May 2026 and is designed to equip students with essential competencies required to succeed in today’s rapidly evolving digital corporate environment. Through this structured initiative, the Department seeks to strengthen students’ practical knowledge, professional readiness, and technological proficiency to meet modern industry demands.

ELEVATE 2026 Successfully Commenced

The Department of Business Management officially commenced ELEVATE 2026: The Communication & Presentation Skills Enhancement Program on 11th May 2026, marking the beginning of a transformative 10-week development journey for selected Level III Business Management undergraduates.
The program has been designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and professional practice by strengthening students’ linguistic confidence, communication effectiveness, and public speaking abilities. Through interactive workshops, practical activities, and engagement-based learning sessions, participants will gain valuable exposure to professional communication practices essential for modern corporate environments. more

ICME 2025, under the theme of “Entrepreneurial Bricolage: Steering Volatile Markets through Improvised Strategies and Innovative Thinking,” aims to create a forum for academics, researchers, and practitioners across the globe to debate and share their knowledge on business institutes, particularly related to the ongoing global recession and their impact on the economy and contemporary management practices.

Idea Cloud 2025

Idea Cloud is a business concept competition where tertiary students and school-level students can pitch their creative ideas that propose alternatives for social and economic development in Sri Lanka. The competition will take place with the International Conference on Management and Economics for the sixth time in 2025. The main objective of the competition is to develop a platform to encourage innovative entrepreneurial ideas of the students. In this competition, the ideas can be new business models, startups, infrastructural modifications, or products which is the outcome of greater creative and innovative efforts of young generation. Concepts that can serve as the basis for a new business but have not yet been commercialized are eligible. Participants are invited to submit original concepts for new products, business models, businesses, or infrastructure improvements.

20th Academic Sessions And 19th Vice Chancellor’s Awards Ceremony

Academic Sessions is an annual forum organized by University of Ruhuna to share research findings of staff and students. The 20th Academic Sessions and 19th Vice Chancellor’s Awards Ceremony will be hosted by Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna in 2023. under the theme of “Intellectual and Entrepreneurial Thrust for a Resilient and Progressive Society”.  The Organizing Committee invites Abstracts and Extended Abstracts for oral/ poster presentations for the technical sessions. The submissions are limited to Academic/ Academic Supportive/ Administrative/ Non-Academic staff and students of the University of Ruhuna.

Faculty Day is a tradition that has been continuing in the faculty for the past years which is aimed at building a strong relationship between the academic members, students, academic supportive staff and non-academic staff. The faculty organizes the event with the support of Physical Education Unit and the Sports Advisory Board of the University of Ruhuna. The 2022 faculty day intends to provide a fruitful opportunity to the faculty to enjoy a day filled with entertaining events and sports.
