Field Visit 2026 - Department of Accountancy

The Circle of Accounting attached to the Department of Accountancy, Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna, organized an educational field visit for fourth-year Accounting Specialized undergraduates on 23rd June 2026 to enhance their practical exposure to public sector accounting, auditing, and financial management practices. The field visit included visits to the Department of State Accounts under the Ministry of Finance, the National Audit Office of Sri Lanka, and the Lotus Tower.

At the Department of State Accounts, students gained valuable insights into treasury operations, public financial management systems, the role of government financial institutions, and the processes involved in government financial operations. The visit also provided students with practical exposure to systems such as CIGAS and ITMIS packages, as well as the national budgetary process, enabling them to understand the practical application of concepts discussed in their academic studies. The visit to the National Audit Office of Sri Lanka enhanced students’ understanding of public sector auditing practices, audit methodologies, audit reporting procedures, and the role of government auditing in ensuring transparency, accountability, and effective financial management. In addition, the visit to the Lotus Tower provided students with an opportunity to observe its architectural design, modern engineering features, telecommunications infrastructure, and its significance as a major national development project and landmark. Overall, the field visit enabled students to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical applications while broadening their understanding of public sector financial management, auditing practices, and national development initiatives.
