Our University
The University of Ruhuna is one of the leading universities in Sri Lanka. The University of Ruhuna was established by a special Presidential Decree on 1st September 1978 as Ruhuna University college fulfilling a long cherished desire of the people of Southern Sri Lanka.
Our Faculty
The Faculty of Management and Finance was established in 2003. At present, it is one of the foremost faculties consisting of four Departments of studies namely Department of Entrepreneurship, Department of Human Resource, Department of Accounting and Finance and Department of Marketing, in addition to the computer unit and the e-learning centre.
At present Faculty offers courses in a range of disciplines leading to Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA)Honours degrees.
Students
The students are provided with a friendly learning environment which encourages them to excel in one's field of study, and to achieve one's goals while maintaining strong personal relationships. The students are allow to exploit opportunities to engage in co-curricular activities at local and International levels.

Faculty of Management and Finance , University of Ruhuna, one of the leading management faculties in Sri Lanka annually organizes the International Conference on Management and Economics (ICME) with the objective of creating a strong platform for academics, researchers and practitioners to exchange their knowledge in the field of Management and Economics.

The Circle of Accounting of the Department of Accountancy, Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna, successfully organized a professional development workshop on “Professional Presence: Etiquette and Communication at Work” on the 17th of July 2025 at MFLT 08, under the guidance of Ms. Madhavi Ariyasena, Lecturer in the Department of Accountancy.
The session was conducted by Ms. Kokila Perera, an internationally certified trainer (UK), certified life coach, NLP practitioner, motivational speaker, and CEO of Elitz International Pvt Ltd. With her extensive expertise in human talent development, Ms. Perera delivered an engaging and insightful program focusing on professional etiquette, workplace communication, and building a strong personal presence. more
PRESCO’25 – A Gateway to Professional Futures
PRESCO’25 is a career fair organized by the Circle of Marketing of the Department of Marketing, Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna which was successfully held on the 29th of July 2025. The event was conducted in collaboration with the Career Guidance Unit of the university, with the aim of bridging the gap between undergraduates and the corporate world. This event was made possible through the invaluable support of six prominent industry partners as DSI, Durdans Hospital, Nippon Paint, INSEE Cement, Vallibel Finance, and Ernst & Young (EY). The primary objective of PRESCO’25 was to provide students with direct exposure to leading companies and current industry trends. The event was successfully concluded, drawing active participation from both students and industry representatives. The overwhelmingly positive feedback from attendees reflected the event’s impact and affirmed its value and it encouraged to initiate PRESCO’26 with even greater enthusiasm and scale.
Outbound Training Program - 2024
The Outbound Training Program, held on 6th December 2024 at the university premises, was organized by the Department of Management and Entrepreneurship in collaboration with the Career Guidance Unit. Designed for 2000-level undergraduates in the Department of Management and Entrepreneurship, the program aimed to enhance leadership skills and foster personal growth.

Field Visit 2024 – Department of Accountancy
The Department of Accountancy together with the Circle of Accounting organized a one-day field visit on the 06th of December 2024, for 3000-level Accountancy students of the Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna. A Warm Welcome for New HRM Undergraduates
The Circle of Human Resource Management Development, Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna, organized a welcome program named “Avenrise 2024” to welcome 2000-level HRM specialization undergraduates selected for the Department of Human Resource Management. Effective Literature Review Writing - Session 1
An online session on “How to write an effective literature review”, organized by the Department of Management and Entrepreneurship was conducted via Zoom on 12 th October 2023 from 6.30 PM onwards. The session catered to the 4000 level undergraduates within the department, equipping them with essential skills to excel in their research endeavor. Mrs. M.G.M. Dilrukshi, Senior lecturer, Department of Management and Entrepreneurship, Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna as the resource person of the session. BITES 101
The second edition of ‘’BITES 101 ‘’, a vibrant street food festival that tantalized taste buds and entertained crowds, was organized by the 2019/2020 batch of the Department of Marketing, Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna. This event was successfully held on 17th January 2024 from 5:00 p.m. onwards at the faculty premises.
The event boasted a diverse array of delicious offerings, partnering with external vendors, and attendees embarked on a delectable journey, indulging in a variety of cuisines and flavors. Beyond the delectable spread, BITES 101 weaved a tapestry of captivating entertainment to elevate the experience, featuring guest artists Visula Madusara, Naduni Yameesha, Vidula Ravishara, Malindu Chathuranga, and Idunil Wijekoon (Man Saranna). This dynamic combination of culinary delights and enthralling entertainment created an unforgettable experience for all who attended.
Leadership Training Program
Leadership Training Program was designed to enhance students' leadership skills and foster personal development. The program utilized an experiential learning approach, emphasizing the importance of learning through engaging activities and enjoyable experiences. Session was organized by the Department of Management and Entrepreneurship in collaboration of Career Guidance Unit held on 10th January 2024 from 6.30 am onwards in the university gymnasium. The session was targeted for the 2000 level undergraduates in the Department of Management and Entrepreneurship. The main focus with the leadership training program was to impart learning on organizational needs such as to improve self- confidence, personality development,
team building and effective communication.
Workshop on Social and Green Entrepreneurship
A workshop on Social and Green Entrepreneurship, organized by the Department of
Management and Entrepreneurship was held on 1st of December, 2022 at the MFLT 3A from 09.00 a.m. for 3000 level Entrepreneurship specialized students. The workshop provided participants with an understanding of theoretical and practical knowledge on solving social problems at a systemic level using innovative, sustainable, scalable, inclusive and measurable approaches. Mr. Sanath Vidanagamage, CEO at Institute of Growth Concept, was the resource person of the workshop. He was able to make the session more interactive and interesting.

The 12 th International Conference on Management and Economics (ICME 2023), organised by the Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna, under the theme of “Recession to Recovery: Role of Management and Economics”, was successfully conducted on the 16 th of August 2023 at the Faculty Premises. Associate Professor Dr Donella Caspersz from the University of Western Australia Business School and Dr P.K.G Harischandra – Director of Economic Research from Central Bank of Sri Lanka, graced the occasion as eminent keynote speakers of the conference.
The conference carried 10 technical sessions including Entrepreneurship, Economics, Agri-Business Management and Public Policy, Operations and Supply Chain Management, Marketing Management and Tourism, HRM and OB, Accounting and Finance, Education and two Undergraduate Research Forums. It was further glamoured by the ‘Idea Cloud’ competition among inter-university students and a ‘Business Forum’ to elevate the cooperative sector of Sri Lanka.

Virtual HRIS Lab powered by MintHRM
The Department of Human Resource Management and MintHRM, Infoseek (Pvt) Limited collaboratively organized an all-inclusive 10 weeks course on Human Resource Information System (HRIS) “On and Above HRIS-Virtual Lab powered by Mint HRM’’ to third and final year Human Resource Management specialized undergraduates to shape up their technical skills and give exposure to performing better in the industrial world. The second session was held on 27.05.2023 at 06 pm via Zoom. The resource person of the session was Co-Founder MintHRM, Mrs. Thanuja Masakorala. Kokila Rawaya – 2023
Kokila Rawaya – 2023 was successfully held on 24 th of April 2023 from 10.00 am onwards near the university gymnasium. The Entrepreneurship study circle organized this event on which academics, non-academics, and undergraduates are participated to this event. The objective of organizing the Sinhala and Tamil New Year festival by undergraduates is to celebrate and promote cultural diversity, unity, and inclusivity within the university community. The festival aims to provide an opportunity for students to showcase and share the rich traditions, customs, and heritage of the Sinhala and Tamil cultures.

‘Bites 101’, the street food festival organized by the students of the Department of Marketing, University of Ruhuna took place on 4 th January 2023 on the premises of the Faculty of Management and Finance. The event was a glamorous evening blended with music of high caliber, especially with the participation of Ms. Ashka Kulatunga, Mr. Charith Mihiranga, Mr. Ravindu Lakshan and Ms. Irushi Jayaratne as invited artists to the event. Living up to the accustomed values of the Department of Marketing in introducing new trends to the university community, ‘Bites 101’ makes its mark in the books of history as the first-ever commercial-scale street food festival organized within the university premises.
Out Bound Training program- 2000 and 3000 levels
To develop undergraduates’ leadership skills and outgoing personalities Department of Human Resource Management organized a two-day Out Bound Training (OBT) program in collaboration with Career Cell, Faculty of Management and Finance. This training program was facilitated by the Career Guidance Unit, University of Ruhuna. The program was held on 8 th and 9 th November 2022 at university premises and 2000-level and 3000-level HRM specialized undergraduates participated. At the end of the 1 st day of the OBT program bonfire night was held and Prof. E.P.S. Chandana, Deputy Vice-chancellor of the University of Ruhuna graced thisoccasion as a chief guest.
The certificate distribution ceremony of “Imagines-2022”
The certificate distribution ceremony of “Imagines-2022” the first ever inter faculty mobile photography competition organized by the Department of Marketing was held on 1 st of November 2022 in Board Room, Faculty of Management and Finance.
Primarily, the competition was carried out in three categories namely, Nature, Color of Life, and University of Ruhuna. The judge panel of “Imagines 2022” was consisted with Dr. A.C. Karunarathna, Senior Lecturer, Department of Marketing, Mr. Sanju Rangodage, Professional Photographer, and Mr. Pumuditha Jayasinghe, Professional Photographer. Mr. T.T. Isuru Lakmal Fernando and Mr.W.G.I.S. Senarathne of the Faculty of Management and Finance won first places in the Nature Category, followed by Ms. Hashini Tharuka of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences A.Y.N.H. Tharushika and K.D. Dileesha Nayomi of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences secured first and second places, respectively, in theColor of Life category. Mr. T.T. Isuru Lakmal Fernando of the Faculty of Management and Finance won the first place in the category of University of Ruhuna.
KITEOPIA – Kite Festival and Competition
KITEOPIA – Kite festival and competition was successfully held on 26th of July 2023 from 3.00 PM onwards in the faculty premises. The Entrepreneurship study circle organized this event on which several undergraduates are participated to this event. The objective of organizing this Kite festival was to foster a vibrant and engaging platform for students to showcase their creativity, teamwork, and networking prowess. KITEOPIA succeeded in not only providing an enjoyable experience but also in aligning with the broader goals of nurturing creativity, innovation, and the entrepreneurial mindset among the participants.

Retired Senior Lecturer Dr. R. M. Ratnayaka's felicitation ceremony was held on 24th January 2022 from 11.00 am to 1.00 pm at MFLT 02 lecture theater, Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna. Vice Chancellor and Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University of Ruhuna, The Dean, Heads of the Departments and Lecturers of the Faculty of Management and Finance graced the occasion. Dr. R.M. On & Above HRIS Session 04: Role of IT in HR
Department of Human Resource Management and MintHRM collaboratively organized an all-inclusive 10 weeks course on HRIS “On and Above HRIS-Virtual Lab powered by Mint HRM’’ to third and fourth-year Human Resource Management specialized undergraduates to shape up their technical skills and give exposure to performing better in the industrial world. The fourth session was held on the 15th of September 2021 from 07.30 pm to 09.30 pm via zoom. The resource person of the session was the CEO/ Founder of MintHRM, Mr. Namal Gunawardena. Lecturers of the Department of HRM and more than 140 pre-registered students in the Department of HRM have participated in the session.
Renewing Identity- Personality Development Workshop
Department of Human Resource Management organized a personality development workshop under the theme of “Renewing Identity”. It was held on 02 nd February 2022 at MFLT 02 from 01.00 pm onwards. Second year Human Resource Management specialized undergraduates were participated to shape up their personalities and enhance their passion to performing better in the industrial world. The resource person of the session was the well experienced Corporate Trainer Mr. Athula Kithsiri. Head of
the Department and Lecturers of the Department of HRM and students have participated in the session.
Expert Esperienza
The Entrepreneurship Study Circle is in the process of conducting a series of webinars via Zoom by inviting different experts from diverse industries. The 1st session of this series was conducted successfully on 03rd November 2021 at 4.00 pm, with the participation of a young couple; Mr. Kasun and Mrs. Chamari Deegoda Gamage as chief guests who are able to create a difference in social media utilization in an attractive manner with a YouTube channel called "Travel with Wife". This program especially focused on 2000 level semester 2 and 3000 level semester 2 students specialized in Entrepreneurship. The ultimate objective of this program is to guide them to be successful entrepreneurs who can make a positive change in the society.
Data Analysis for Research using SmartPLS workshop series
The Department of Human Resource management organized a workshop series on Data Analysis for Research using Smart PLS. The 1st phase of the workshop was held on 20th of July 2021, from 8.00 am to 11.00 am via zoom. The session was conducted by Dr.T.S.L.W.Gunawardana, Senior Lecturer, Department of Marketing, Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna. Senior and Junior academic staff and students of the Faculty of Management and Finance participated in the session. The 2nd and 3rd phase of the workshop series will be held on 27th of July and 3rd of August 2021 in the same time slot. The Department of Human resource Management invites all interested parties to join the workshop series.

The Faculty of Management and Finance conducted a workshop on “student-centered learning in higher education” to the academic staff of the faculty on 23 rd of March 2021 from 9.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m. at the faculty board room. The workshop was hosted by Mr.E. K. Jayampathi, Senior Lecturer, Department of Management and Entrepreneurship, Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna. The session mainly focused on effective student-centeredlearning practices and how to bring them into practice for better engagement and performance of the students.
Preparing CV aiming to apply Internship
For assist undergraduates to design their internship resume effectively, Department of
Management and Entrepreneurship organized a guest lecture on “Preparing CV aiming to apply Internship” for 4000 level undergraduates who are reading for BBA honors degree program. Session was held on 6 th September 2022 from 4.00 PM via Zoom. Session was conducted by Ms. Onandi Wijayarathne, Lecturer (Probationary), Department of Marketing, Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna.
Sage Business Cloud Accounting Training Program
The Department of Finance organized a training program in collaboration with PW Holdings on Sage Business Cloud Accounting. Mr. Channa Wanigaisnghe, Systems Consultant at PW Holdings conducted the training program as the resource person. Two groups of students participated in the training which was scheduled into 10 sessions for each group. The certificate awarding ceremony was held on 22 nd December 2021 to award certificates to 81 students who have completed the training program. Senior Professor Sujeewa Amarasena, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ruhuna graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and delivered a speech highlighting the necessity of such training programs to enhance the employability of the graduates. Mr. Channa Wanigasinghe, the Systems Consultant at PW Holdings also highlighted the importance of such training during his speech. Ms. Gayashi Lakshika (a final-year student)
delivered a speech representing the students. Prof. Samantha Kumara, the Dean of the Faculty, delivered the welcome speech while Dr. Manjula Wanniarachcighe delivered the vote of thanks. "HR now and Beyond" a webinar
"HR now and Beyond" a webinar organized on 22nd May 2021, aiming to enhance awareness among HRM undergraduates about opportunities available for HRM graduates in the corporate world. Session was conducted by Ms.Keshavi Puswewala, HR business partner, Corporate functions and R &D and employer brand lead in Unilever Sri Lanka. More than 200 undergraduates from University of Ruhuna participated in this and the session was organized by the Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna in collaboration with the Career Guidance Unit of the University of Ruhuna and Sparkers University Ambassadors of Unilever Sri Lanka.
A Workshop on Proposed BBA in International Business
The second workshop on the proposed Bachelor of Business Administration in
International Business Degree program was held on 08 th of October 2020 from 9.00 a.m. to 12.00 noon at the Conference Hall, Chinese Center, University of Ruhuna,with the participation of nearly 20 academics from the Faculty of Management and Finance. The workshop was targeted at allowing participants to bring their inputs into the development of the proposed degree program, and mapping the intended learning outcomes of the each course unit with the program learning outcomes.
A Speech-Crafting Initiative
University of Ruhuna is in a collective effort to provide undergraduates with a platform to become an effective speaker, with expert inputs. As such, a speech-crafting initiative targeted at students at UoR, namely, "Speak Better; Meet the Experts; Forge Ahead" is being implemented as a series of workshops. The very first online session of this initiative was conducted on 4th of May, 2020 from 2.00 p.m. to 3.30 p.m. (via Zoom), with the participation of 300 participants, including Senior Professor Sujeewa Amarasena, Vice Chancellor of University of Ruhuna. Professor Kanthi Yapa, Patron/ Gavel Club at UoR, Faculty of Science, Ms. Manori Jayasinghe, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, UoR and Mr. Ganushka Randula, Faculty of Technology, UoR acted as the resource persons of the session.
Ethics and Banking Industry
The Circle of Marketing organized a webinar on "Ethics and the Banking Industry" on 26 th July, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Mr. Nuwan Pathirana, Manager, CSR and Corporate Sustainability of Sampath Bank PLC, led the workshop. In this forum for the dissemination of knowledge, he emphasized the importance of marketing ethics to organizations and how marketing students might enter the industry as ethical marketers.
A Workshop on Proposed BBA in Supply Chain Management
A workshop on the proposed Bachelor of Business Administration in Supply Chain Management Degree program was held on 14 th of August 2020 from 9.00 a.m. to 02.00 p.m. at the Conference Hall, Chinese Center, University of Ruhuna, with the participation of nearly 20 academics from the Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna. The workshop was targeted at creating a platform for academics to present their ideas and perspectives, so that ensuring the developmentof a sound degree program.
A Virtual Session on Importance of Theater/Dramatic Arts
Theater/Dramatic arts are of greater importance for igniting the curiosity of individuals and love of learning in other subject areas. Hence, to educate people on the importance of dramatic arts, the cultural center at University of Ruhuna together with Faculty of Management and Finance conducted a virtual guest lecture via Zoom on 21 st of January 2021 from 8.00 p.m. to 11.00 p.m., with the participation of 110 participants. Dr. Jayalal Rohana, Lecturer – drama & theater arts served as the
resource person, and the cornerstone of the session had been its emphasis on demonstrating the multiple benefits of learning dramatic arts, and how it is positioned in the streams of various subject
areas.
Speech-Crafting Initiative 3.0
The third session of speech-crafting initiative, namely “Speak Better; Meet the Experts; Forge Ahead–3.0”, organized by the UoR to help undergraduates become an effective speaker was conducted via Zoom on 19 th of June 2020 from 4.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m., with the participation of more than 250 participants. The theme of the session was “Be Credible to be Incredible”, which really captivated the audience in a more convincing manner. Mr. Thanuka de Silva and Ms.Chakrangi Dahanayake served as the resource persons of the session.

The Faculty of Management and Finance organizes the "Faculty Day 2019"; an annual event on which academics, non-academics, and undergraduates are engaged in various events. The " Faculty Day 2019" will kick off at 8.00 a.m. on 30th of January 2019 at university playground. Construction Process of the New Building Complex
The new building complex at the Faculty of Management and Finance is well underway. Apart from the administrative block designed to accommodate dean office and the working space for faculty administration, the new building complex will consist of a computer unit as well. The computer unit with the capacity of serving 200 students will provide students with a novel experience, enabling them to utilize online study materials and gain access to cutting-edge technology in a more convenient manner.
Resonance of Marketing 2019
The Circle of Marketing organized “ Resonance of Marketing 2019 ”, which was basically a ceremonial function for welcoming newbies to the Department of Marketing. As such, the official welcoming of new comers to the Department of Marketing was held on 24th of May 2019 at the MFLT 06 with the participation of academic staff and the marketing major undergraduates. The welcoming ceremony, featuring speeches form the Head of the Department and the office bearers of the Circle of Marketing had been continuing for duration of one hour.

Miyuru Kalpana
The Circe of Accounting and Finance organized "Miyuru Kalpana", in which a speaker presents a brief inquiry into each song after/during the staged performance. This was held on 19th of February 2020 at the faculty premises and Mr. Deepal Guruge, the speaker was relentlessly evoking fans through bringing his inquiries into each performance item. The event was graced by the presence of Deputy Vice Chancellor at the University of Ruhuna, Professor Saman Chandana and Dean of the Faculty of Management and Finance, Dr. T.S.L.W. Gunawardhana. The 9 th International Conference on Management and Economics (ICME) 2020, organized by the Faculty of Management and Finance under the theme of “the role of business intelligence in shaping organizations in emerging economies” was held on 11 th of September, 2020 at the Weligama Bay Marriott Resort and Spa. Professor Ajantha Dharmasiri, Director and the Chairman, Board of Management of Postgraduate Institute of Management, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka and Dr. Sugumar Mariappanadar, Senior Lecturer, Peter Faber Business School, Australian Catholic University, Melbourne, Australia delivered insightfuln keynote speeches at the conference. Overall, the ICME 2020 provided academics, researchers, and practitioners with a premier platform to debate and share their knowledge on business institutes and its impact on the economy and contemporary management practices.
Mint HRM Session 02: Role of IT in HR
Department of Human Resource Management and MintHRM collaboratively organized an all-inclusive 10 weeks course on HRIS “On and Above HRIS-Virtual Lab powered by Mint HRM’’ to third and fourth year Human Resource Management specialized undergraduates to shape up their technical skills and give exposure to performing better in the industrial world. The second session was held on 01st of September 2021 from 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm via zoom. The resource person of the session was the Co-Founder of MintHRM, Mrs. Thanuja Masakorala. Lecturers of the Department of HRM and more than 135 pre-registered students in the Department of HRM have participated in the session.
Digital Edge 2.0: 2 nd Guest Lecture
The 2 nd guest lecture of ‘Digital Edge 2.0: Digitalize with Experts’ was conducted on 27th October 2021 from 4.00 – 5.30 pm via Zoom, with the participation of nearly 100 marketing undergraduates at the faculty. The session focused on practical applications to achieve and decipher results on Facebook and Instagram for clients. Ms. Nalinka Ratnavibushana, the Managing Director of Mentation Media (Pvt) Ltd, a reputed figure with an enormous experience in the field served as the guest speaker of the session. She provided some interesting insights into Facebook/Instagram campaign planning and effective content designing, assisting students to learn something of importance.
Be a Job Creator, Not a Seeker
The Department of Management and Entrepreneurship always attempts to change the mindset of our undergraduates through changing their traditional and common job seeking behavior into job creating behavior. In future, we believe that our undergraduates should be able to provide many other employment opportunities for the unemployed people in the society at large, rather than seeking to work for someone else. To motivate them on behalf of this matter, we warmly invited Mr.Mohan Palliyagru, a renowned corporate trainer and a motivational speaker to conduct a session to our undergraduates. Circle of Human Resource Development successfully conducted the "My Dissertation Journey" experience sharing session on 18th of June 2021 from 6.00 pm to 8.00 pm online. A Day Exposure Visit to Sri Lanka Standards Institutions
Department of Management and Entrepreneurship organized a day exposure visit to Sri Lanka Standards Institutions on 31st of August, 2018 as to provide students with an awareness of quality management systems and standards. 34 HRM specialized undergraduates at the 3000 level participated the program. Drama Competition
Inter-Faculty Short Drama Competition organized by the Cultural Center at the University of Ruhuna to mark the 150 th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi was held on 5 th of March 2020 at the Rabindranath Tagore Memorial Auditorium. The competition kicked off at 2.00 p.m. and continued till 7.00 p.m. with the participation of contestants from each faculty, thus providing undergraduates with an ideal platform to showcase their talent in the field of acting. A group of students representing the Faculty of Management and Finance also took part in the competition; however, they were not nominated as the winners, but they were still able to present a captivating performance item.
The New Student Intake 2020
The inauguration ceremony of new student intake for 2020 was held on 02nd of January , 2020 at the Rabindranath Tagore Auditorium at University of Ruhuna. After welcoming the new comers officially to the faculty , they are to be participating for an orientation program, which begins on the same day and continuing till 17th of January, 2020. This will help new students to become familiar with the faculty, before starting their classwork. After participating for the orientation program, the academic work for the new students is scheduled to be commenced from 20th of January 2020 onwards.

Value of Professional Integrity
‘Value of Professional Integrity’ is an experience sharing session organized by the Department of Human Resource Management, held on 30th May 2022 from 6.00 pm to 7.30 pm via zoom. The session was opened for the undergraduates in the Department of Human Resources Management. Mr. Daya Karunitha Wimalasuriya who is the Senior Project and Portfolio Manager of City of Surrey, BC Canada acted as the resource person. In the session resource person emphasized on how important it is to maintain a professional and personal integrity while reviewing the key points that are essential as a fresher to enter in to the job market. It was a fruitful and stimulating session with descriptive illustrations.

The Circle of Marketing organized a webinar on “Ethics, the Case of Finance Industry” on 29th July, 2022, from 2.00pm to 3.00pm via Zoom platform. The children undergoing medical treatment in the children's ward of Matara General Hospital were provided with gift boxes, food, and essential medical supplies by the students.

Milad-Un-Nabi - The bridge of reconciliation virtual celebration was held on 19 th October 2021 from 7.00 pm to 8.30 pm via zoom. Dr (Mrs.) M.B.F. An Employability Session
The Faculty of Management and Finance together with Career Guidance Unit at university conducted an employability session centered upon leadership and internship program on 12th June 2019 at MFLT 01. The event was aimed at providing undergraduates with a preparation session for the future job market. The session started at 01.30 p.m. and continued till 05.00 p.m. with an active participation of the undergraduates.
Health and Safety Management Practices in an Organizational Context- Guest Lecture
In line with the HRM 22413- Safety and Health Management subject, The Department of Human Resource Management organized a guest lecture on " Health and safety management practices in an organizational context. The session was organized with the purpose of providing the knowledge and understanding of 2000-level human resource management specialized undergraduates regarding how health and safety management practice in a real organizational setting. Mrs Thilini H.K. Liyanage, District Factory Inspecting Engineer, Department of Labour participated as a guest speaker in the session. Idea Cloud is an intra-university business start-up idea competition organized by the Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna. 2020 is the second consecutive year in which Idea Cloud will be rolled out. Leadership Training Program
‘Leadership Training - 2022’ was an activity based behavioral training intervention for students leadership and personality development based on experiential learning methodology of learning through fun and experience. Session was organized by the Department of Management and Entrepreneurship in collaboration of Career Guidance Unit held on 04th November 2022 from 6.00 am to 6.00 pm in the university premises. The session was targeted for the 2000 level and 3000 level undergraduates in the Department of Management and Entrepreneurship. Inauguration Ceremony of New Departments
The Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna marked another significantm milestone in its journey with the official establishment of two new departments, the Department of Business Management and the Department of Finance. The inauguration ceremony was held on the 06 th of October 2022. This prestigious ceremony was graced by the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ruhuna, Senior Professor Sujeewa Amarasena, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ruhuna, Professor Saman Chandana, by the cordial invitation of the heads of the two new departments of the Faculty of Management and Finance, headed by the Dean, Professor P.A.P. The first session of the Event Marketing guest lecture series organized by the Circle of
Marketing held on 11 th July 2022 from 9.30 a.m. onwards via Zoom platform. A three-day workshop on "Business Plan Development" for the subject of Venture Creation, organized by the Department of Management and Entrepreneurship is going to be held on 17th,18th and 19th August 2018 at MFLT 03 at the faculty. The "TRIGON" Competition
The "TRIGON" competition, orchestrated by the Circle of Marketing for the term 2022-2023 in partnership with Slim Marketing School Matara, aims to enrich branding knowledge among the University of Ruhuna undergraduates. The event unfolds in two key phases. Phase one was about creating an imaginary brand with its own creative idea for a real-time problem or business opportunity integrated with technology. The second phase was conducted along with the awarding ceremony in the Grand Rockland Hotel, Matara. shortlisted 5 teams as finalists and had the opportunity to present their final presentation and team TREVO won the championship of the competition according to the novelty, creativity of the idea, and performance. The inauguration ceremony of new student intake for 2020 was held on 02nd of January , 2020 at the Rabindranath Tagore Auditorium at University of Ruhuna. After welcoming the new comers officially to the faculty , they are to be participating for an orientation program, which begins on the same day and continuing till 17th of January, 2020. This will help new students to become familiar with the faculty, before starting their classwork. After participating for the orientation program, the academic work for the new students is scheduled to be commenced from 20th of January 2020 onwards.

Through participating the field visit to Hambantota District, students had a chance to see tourism, hospitality and leisure ‘in action’, and developing a proposal for practitioners on how to better reap the potential in the field drawing upon insights from the concepts learnt in the classroom.

Workshop on Colombo Stock Exchange
The Department of Finance successfully organized a workshop on the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) at the Faculty of Management and Finance premises on 29th November 2023 from 1:00 PM to 4.00 PM. Mr. Nirodha Abygunawradena, Manager of the CSE Matara Branch, and Mr. Bimal Rathnayake, Senior Executive Officer at the CSE Matara Branch conducted the workshop as guest speakers. The workshop was inaugurated with an introduction by Mr. K.R. K. Harshana, an Assistant Lecturer of the Department of Finance. Mrs. M.S. Nanayakkara, the Head of the Department of Finance, coordinated and organized the workshop. Students from the Department of Finance actively participated in the workshop. The workshop was successful in providing attendees with extensive knowledge and practical experiences of the Colombo Stock Exchange.

"Lead and Inspire", an internship experience sharing session was organized by the Circle of Marketing, to all the final year undergraduates on 8 th of June 2022 from 6.30 p.m onwards via zoom platform. Mr.Daishika Dias, Miss.Lakeesha Gamage, Mr.Yasas Kanaheraarachchi and Miss Minuri Samarathunge served as the resource persons of the session. They shared their experience on how to be an effective intern by balancing both academic and career life.
Assumption of Duties by the New Dean of the Faculty of Management and Finance
The University of Ruhuna recently witnessed the Assumption of Duties by Dr. Manjula K.Wanniarachchige as the Dean of the Faculty of Management and Finance. The event commenced with the welcome speech by Dr. Tharaka Wijesundara, who highlighted the importance of the event and expressed his gratitude towards the participants. Then, delivering his acceptance speech, Dr. Manjula K. Wanniarachchige, first, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve as the Dean of the Faculty of Management and Finance and pledged to work tirelessly to uphold the academic standards of the faculty. Then, Professor E.P.S. Chandana - the Deputy Vice-Chancellor addressed the audience and, in his speech, Senior Professor Sujeewa Amarasena, the Vice-Chancellor congratulated the new dean and expressed his confidence in his leadership abilities. ‘Department of Human Resource Management and MintHRM collaboratively organized an all-inclusive 10 weeks course on HRIS “On and Above HRIS-Virtual Lab powered by Mint HRM’’ to third and fourth-year Human Resource Management specialized undergraduates to shape up their technical skills and give exposure to performing better in the industrial world. The sixth session was held on the 06th of October 2021 from 7.30 pm to 9.30 pm via zoom. The resource person of the session was the Co-Founder of MintHRM, Mrs. Thanuja Masakorala. A workshop on Assignment Formatting was successfully held at MFLT 01 on 27th November 2024, which was organized by the Department of Accountancy. The workshop aimed to address the issues identified in assignment formatting and enhance students’ ability towards proper assignment formatting for gain marks with clear writing and formatting. SPARK '25 Ignites Leadership Program
The Department of Business Management proudly hosted SPARK '25, a full-day leadership development event held on July 15, 2025, at the university gymnasium with the support of CUG and external sponsors. Aimed at enhancing leadership, teamwork, communication, and self-confidence, the event featured interactive games, group discussions, and trust-building activities. It was attened 30 undergraduates and all of them were voluntieers and at the evening session the organizing team members also joined the program. Study Tour – 2024
The Department of Management and Entrepreneurship organized a study tour to Cinnamon Wild Yala Hotel on 4th December 2024. The tour, conducted under the subjects Tourism Entrepreneurship, Social and Green Entrepreneurship, and Venture Strategies, aimed to provide 3000-level undergraduates majoring in Entrepreneurship with practical exposure to tourism, social, and green business opportunities in Sri Lanka. Students explored eco-tourism models, sustainable practices, and innovative business strategies through interactive sessions with hotel management and field activities. This hands-on experience bridged classroom learning with real- world applications, fostering critical thinking and inspiring sustainable entrepreneurial practices.

The “රසවි - රහට සංගීත වින්දනය” musical program organized by the Department of Business Management as the final event of the “BM Week’22”, to bring many new experiences to the University community, was successfully held on 04th of November from 04.30 p.m. at the Faculty of Management and Finance open theater premises. This new-style, food-based musical entertainment event was organized to enhance student collaboration with departmental works and to uplift and appreciate the aesthetic skills of the university students. The first session of the Branding workshop organized by the Department of Marketing was held on 5 th January 2021 from 3.00 P.M onwards via zoom. The session was carried out on the topic of “The journey towards building a strong brand: The experience sharing forum”. Mr. Lakmal Weerasiri (Laka) who is the founder and managing director of Sanity Creation- Lakai Sikai was the resource person of this session. As social media plays a critical role in today’s communication, building a strong brand and maintaining in for a long period of time is challenging. A workshop on the proposed Bachelor of Business Administration in InternationalBusiness Degree program was held on 13 th of August 2020 from 9.00 a.m. to 05.00 p.m. at the Conference Hall, Chinese Center, University of Ruhuna, with the participation of nearly 25 academics representing Faculty of Management and Finance, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at University of Ruhuna. The Entrepreneurship specialization area of the Department of Management and Entrepreneurship organized a special guest lecture on ‘Stimulating Undergraduates towards Entrepreneurship’ for the 2000 and 3000 level students on 14th June at MFLT 08.The resource person was Ms. Ayesha Imalika, the founder CEO of ‘Kewumkokis.com’- Bandaragama. “Crafting Your Assignment” session held on 16th of June 2021 at 6.00 pm via zoom. The objective of this program was to provide students with a step by step guide in writing assignments in a Bachelor's Degree program. Session hosted by Dr.B.L.Galhena, the Head / Senior Lecturer, Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna. In the session first Dr.B.L.Galhena explained how to prepare assignments effectively and after that discussed student's clarifications. Zoom meeting supported only up to 300 participants, and the capacity was fully occupied
Personality Development Workshop for DHRM Batch
The Department of Human Resource Management collaboration with the Distance and Continuing Education Unit organized a one-day personality development program for 1st batch of students of Diploma in Human Resource Management. Workshop held on 20th June 2022 from 8.00 am to 4.00 pm at MFLT 5. Mr H.V.A. Kithsiri conducted the morning session and the Evening session was conducted by Mr Jayantha and Mr. L.M. Abeywickrama. With the successful participation of the session, all the participants were awarded a certificate for participation.
Adcon 2019
"Adcon 2019", organized by the Department of Marketing is the first and the foremost inter-university advertising focused competition rolled out by a recognized institution in the country, and the grand finale is to be held in February, 2020. This is going to be the second consecutive time of the event, with the participation of more than 300 undergraduates representing all state universities across the country. Making their objective a reality, “Adcon 2019” has provided these undergraduates a formidable platform to unveil their creativity with an exposure into the corporate sector through the competition. “Adcon 2019” was expected to roll out the competition in two stages, drumming up the grand finale to showcase both the conceptual and the practical knowledge of the selected topnotch contestants and the pinnacle would be followed by a mind-blowing musical extravaganza in collaboration with Unilever Sri Lanka, People’s Bank and the Capital Maharaja Organization Limited.

Faculty Day 2020
The “Faculty Day 2020” organized by the Faculty of Management and Finance as an annual event to bring academics, non-academics and undergraduates into a common platform, will be held on 26th of February at university playground. The event will kick off at 8.00 a.m. and will continue till evening, thus providing participants with an opportunity to showcase their skills in various sports and entertainment-related activities. Moreover, this will encourage active involvement of the participants as it provides a platform to break the wheel of monotony for a while. As such, “Faculty Day 2020” will assist everyone to strike a balance between classroom and extra-curricular activities.

A Virtual Panel Discussion
A virtual panel discussion organized by the Department of Accounting and Finance on how to make your internship training successful was held on 20 th March 2021 from 9.00 a.m. onwards, with the participation of nearly 80 undergraduates. The program was organized to address the concerns of BBA final year students of the faculty who commenced their internship training from 15 th March 2021. This session was conducted with the contribution of two key industry experts; Mr. Thushara Gajanayake, CFO of Harischandra Mills PLC and Mr. Ruwan Chandika, Partner of RC Associates.
Introduction to Stock Market
The Circle of Accounting initiated a webinar series on ‘investing in the Stock Market’ with the support of Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE). The very first Guest Lecture was conducted on 11th November 2021 from 3.00PM to 4.00PM onwards via zoom.
The session was on "Introduction to Stock Market" and continued for one hour, with the active involvement of the participants. The guest speaker, Mr. Bimal Rathnayake, Executive, Colombo Stock Exchange - Matara Branch, shared his expertise and knowledge about the stock market.
ICIVM 2020: Calling for Applications
Inter-Faculty Competition in Instrumental &Vocal Music (ICIVM 2020), which is organized by the University of Ruhuna in each consecutive year, calls for candidates to submit their applications on or before 28th of February, 2020. The ICIVM 2020 will offer contestants a wide array of opportunities for both solo and choral singing, thus allowing them to choose upon several options. Based on the focus, as the name of the competition itself suggests, it can be broadly categorized into two separate areas, namely vocal and instrumental. As in the flyer, the vocal and instrumental competitions include a range of individual and group performance items.

The Department of Accountancy and the Department of Finance organized a Capital Market Awareness session with the support of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka (SEC) on 21 st December 2022 at the Faculty. On & Above HRIS Session 03: HR Systems and Processes
Department of Human Resource Management and MintHRM collaboratively organized an all-inclusive 10 weeks course on HRIS “On and Above HRIS-Virtual Lab powered by Mint HRM’’ to third and fourth-year Human Resource Management specialized undergraduates to shape up their technical skills and give exposure to performing better in the industrial world. The third session was held on the 08th of September 2021 from 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm via zoom. The resource person of the session was the Co-Founder of MintHRM, Mrs. Thanuja Masakorala. Lecturers of the Department of HRM and more than 125 pre-registered students in the Department of HRM have participated in the session.

The Department of Human Resource Management organized a workshop titled 'Mastering Zotero' to empower 3000-level HRM specialized undergraduates with essential research skills. The session was held on December 18th, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Faculty Computer Lab. Dr. K.G. The third session of the Marketing Ethics workshop series organized by the Circle of Marketing was held via Zoom on the 22nd of July 2022, from 3:00 p.m. onwards. The session's guest speaker was Mrs. Isuru Wijeratne, Assistant Brand Manager at Allianz Insurance Lanka Ltd. Mrs. Isuru offered her knowledge and experiences in the area of marketing ethics, and the session was quite productive and interactive.

"Entrepreneurial Dialogue 2019" organized by the Entrepreneurship Study Circle for the 1000 level students was successfully held on 26th of June, 2019 at the faculty premises. Mr. W K Chandima, Mr. Nimal Giganage, and Ms. Supuli Sililari Karunarathne were the resource persons of the session and, they were able to make the environment more conducive. The students were keen in interacting with the each throughout the session, thus, resulting in a massive success in the workshop.
Department Welcome 2019 at HRM
The Circle of HRM organized “Department Welcome 2019”, for welcoming new students to the Human Resource Management specialization area. As such, the official welcoming of new comers was held on 21stof May 2019 at the MFLT 02 with the participation of academic staff and the HRM major undergraduates. The welcoming ceremony featuring speeches from the Head of the Department and the office bearers of the Circle of HRM had been continuing for duration of one hour.

In line with the HRM 31413 - Industrial Relations and Labor Law course, the Department of HRM hosted a guest lecture titled "Labor Law in the Organizational Context." This enlightening session was organized with the purpose of providing practical understanding to undergraduate students specializing in Human Resource Management at the 3000 level. Our guest speakers, Mrs. N.U.W. Rathnayake, Senior Labor Officer, and Mrs. W.D.D.S. Dharmapala, Labor Officer from the District Labor Office Matara, shared their profound expertise and real-world experiences, shedding light on the pragmatic application of labor law within organizational settings. This session was successfully held on 9th August 2023, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at MFLT 2B, creating a meaningful learning experience for our students.
A Guide to Effective Citation; Mastering Reference Management
A workshop on reference management was successfully held at MFLT 01 on 04th December 2024 from 1 pm to 3 pm, which the Department of Accountancy organized. The workshop aimed to give knowledge about the importance of referencing in academic writing and the use of software to manage references effectively. The lecturer from the Department of Accountancy, Mrs Ilakshi Weerakkody conducted the session. The workshop provided clear guidance and practical experience in formatting assignments necessary for coursework.

Grand Finale of the Adcon 2018
Grand Finale of the Adcon 2018, which is an advertising competition organized by the Department of Marketing with the collaborative participation of the undergraduates and school students from the Southern province was successfully held on the 21st of September, 2018 at University of Ruhuna. The competition along with a musical evening was basically organized as to mark the 10th anniversary of the Department of Marketing. The event was filled with mind-blowing creative talents of the contestants. Chrismas Eve 2018, basically an annual carol service in nature is to be held on 19th of December 2018 at the MFLT 5 from 2.30 p.m. onwards. The undergraduates at the faculty organize the event consecutively since 2017. This carol concert will provide participants with a fertile opportunity to enjoy classical music recitals with a seasonal twist. Notably, the concert will feature carol performance by the staff at the faculty as well.A Workshop on Qualitative Research
A workshop on qualitative research studies, organized by the Circle of Marketing was held on 20th of August, 2018 at the MFLT 06 from 10.00 a.m. to 12.00 noon. The workshop provided participants with an understanding to basic theoritical knowledge on qualitative research and, further, the uses of qualitative studies. Dr. Dushan Chaminda, an expert of the qualitative research, was the resource person of the workshop. He was able to make the session more interactive and interesting. At the last half of the session, the participants were given an opportunity to present a qualitative research idea of their own drawing upon insights from what they learnt during the session.
2 day workshop for final year undergraduates
The Circle of Marketing is going to conduct a 2 day workshop for final year undergraduates on Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) on 25th of July, and 08th of August 2018 respectively. The workshop will provide participants with an understanding of SEM, the skills to prepare data, run an analysis, troubleshoot problems, and interpret estimates and fit indices.

Awareness Session on Scholarships in Japan
An awareness session on scholarships in Japan organized by the Department of Finance, Faculty of Management and Finance, was successfully conducted on the 17th of May 2023. Approximately 120 students and 6 academics attended the session. The guest speaker of the session was Senior Professor (Chair) A.D Karunarathne, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Colombo. He shared his valuable insights into Japanese education and offered a firsthand account of the educational environment and opportunities available in Japan. Furthermore, Mr. Sathish Perere, a representative from The University of Tokyo in Japan also attended the session. He presented a comprehensive overview of the scholarships available in Japan, providing in-depth information on eligibility criteria, application procedures, and the benefits of studying in Japan. The session commenced with a warm welcome and an introductory speech delivered by Dr. Manjula K. Wanniarachchige, Dean of the Faculty of Management and Finance. Mr. Kasun Harshana, the Temporary Assistant Lecturer of the Department of Finance delivered the vote of thanks.
Field Visit: Gaining Real-World Insights
The Department of Human Resource Management together with the Circle of Human Resource Development organized a one-day field visit on the 30 th of November 2024, for 3000-level HRM students of the Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna. The primary objective of the visit was to augment the students' theoretical understanding by exposing them to the intricate tapestry of contemporary HRM practices in action. The 123 students along with 06 staff members visited Hambantota International Port Group (Pvt.) Ltd., the most diversified deep-water, multi-purpose port in Sri Lanka which offers a comprehensive range of services for

Open Heart Banquet
A group of first-year undergraduates from the Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna, organized the "Open Heart Banquet" almsgiving program. The event took place on 30th December 2023, at the Cancer Ward of Karapitiya Teaching Hospital. Students provided breakfast for the patients undergoing treatment at the Karapitiya Cancer Hospital. Additionally, they provided essential supplies to the Ruhunu Lama Niwasaya in Galle.

CSR Initiative by HRD Circle
Human Resource Development Circle launched a CSR project for the second consecutive year, “ATHWELA 02” on 07th January 2019 in aid of Matara / Dehigaspa Anagarika Dharmapala Kanitu Vidyalaya. As the first phase of CSR, the roof of a main building was completely renovated and the buildings of the school were repaired and colour washed . The second phase included providing education necessities to school children. The main objective of this project was to uplift the quality of learning environment and create a passion for continuous learning among the school students.Chrismas Eve 2018
Chrismas Eve 2018, basically an annual carol service in nature is to be held on 19th of December 2018 at the MFLT 5 from 2.30 p.m. onwards. The undergraduates at the faculty organize the event consecutively since 2017. This carol concert will provide participants with a fertile opportunity to enjoy classical music recitals with a seasonal twist. Notably, the concert will feature carol performance by the staff at the faculty as well.Writing Research Papers
An online workshop targeted at providing academic staff of the faculty with valuable inputs on how to being an effective research supervisor and how to write publishable research papers, was conducted via Zoom on 29 th of June 2020 from 10.00 a.m. to 12.00 noon, with the participation of nearly 40 academic staff at the faculty. The session was hosted and conducted by Professor J. A. S. K. Jayakody, Director, Institute of Human Resource Advancement, University of Colombo, and it was an absolute success.
HR Week
The HR Week 2022 is organized by the Department of Human Resource Management in line with the Department’s 3rd-anniversary celebration, held from 31st October to 4th November 2022 in the Faculty of Management premises. The HR week was planned with the objective of providing different platforms for undergraduates to improve their talents and creativity while enhancing their academic knowledge and developing undergraduates’ skill sets to fit the industry. more
Strategic Finance in Action: Bridging Theory and Real-World Decision Making
The Circle of Accounting, Department of Accountancy, Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna organized an insightful online guest lecture titled “Strategic Finance in Action: Bridging Theory and Real-World Decision Making” on the 23rd of July 2025 via Zoom, under the guidance of Ms. Dinukee De Silva, Lecturer in the Department of Accountancy.
The session was conducted by Mr. Delano Dias, Former Managing Director of Millers Ltd, Former Chief Executive Officer, and Former Chairman of the Import Section of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce. With his extensive industry experience, Mr. Dias shared valuable perspectives on how financial theories are applied in real-world business contexts to support strategic decision-making.more
Guest Lecture– Legal Aspects of Entrepreneurship
The Department of Management and Entrepreneurship organized a guest lecture series under the course ENT 31203: Legal Aspects of Entrepreneurship for 3000-level undergraduates specializing in Entrepreneurship at the Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna. The series, held in July 2025 under the theme “Building Legally Sound Business Ventures,” featured three insightful sessions led by Mr. A.J.M. Samantha Jayasundara, a senior lawyer with extensive experience in the field.
The lecture series aimed to give students practical knowledge of the legal challenges entrepreneurs encounter. Through interactive sessions, students discussed real-world legal issues, reviewed local case studies, and engaged directly with the resource person. This hands-on approach connected theory with practice, strengthened legal understanding, and encouraged critical thinking, preparing students to make well-informed decisions in their entrepreneurial careers.
Workshop on Systematic Literature Review
In line with the Research Methodology module of 3000 level students, the Department of Human Resource Management was able to organize 2 days workshop on Systematic Literature Review for the Human Resource specialized undergraduates. The session was conducted by a prominent scholar of the Faculty of Management and Finance Mr Gayan Priyshantha – Senior Lecturer, Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna. The session was highly impactful for the undergraduates who are expecting to advance their academic writing to complete their final year dissertation.CLASH OF HEROES 2025: Outbound Training Program
The 'CLASH OF HEROES 2025' Outbound Training Program, organized by the Circle of Human Resource Development, Department of Human Resource Management, in collaboration with the Career Guidance Unit, University of Ruhuna, was successfully held on April 30th, 2025, at the university premises from 7.00 am to 09.00 pm. The program was hosted by Ms. PubuduMallawarachchi, Career Guidance Counselor from the Career Guidance Unit.
The program aimed at 3000-level HRM specialized undergraduates, providing experiential learning opportunities to enhance leadership skills and foster holistic development beyond the traditional classroom. Through engaging outdoor activities, 'CLASH OF HEROES 2025' focused on strengthening crucial teamwork, communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills, preparing students for academic pursuits, professional careers, and life beyond theuniversity.
Poson Palette 2024 – Inter-Faculty Online Artwork Competition
The Circle of Human Resource Development (CHRD) of the Department of HRM organized Palette-2024, an online art competition with the theme "Natural Radiance of Poson". This competition attracted a wide range of artworks from undergraduates at the University of Ruhuna. The objective of the event was to provide a platform for students to showcase their artistic talents and encourage reflection on the spiritual significance of Poson Poya, as well as improve their mental wellness. Guest Lecture on Microsoft Power BI
The Department of Finance organized a guest lecture, giving a great opportunity to the students of the Faculty of Management and Finance to get familiar with Microsoft Power BI. The session was conducted by Mr. Lasantha Gamage, the managing director of LDW Accounting and Business Service Pty Ltd in Perth, Australia. He is an expert in large ERP systems and the Microsoft Office suite, having been exposed to the health service, mining and gas, manufacturing, and construction sectors. The session was held on 18 th November 2022 via the Zoom meeting platform and it was a highly successful session in sharing knowledge and experience on data analysis using Microsoft Power BI.

HRIS Workshop with the collaboration of MintHRM
The Department of Human Resource Management in collaboration with MintHRM (Infoseek Private Limited) held a physical workshop on Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS) for our undergraduate students specializing in HRM as a part of the 10 days inclusive sessions to enhance their skills on the HRIS application. The workshop was held on 20th July 2023 from 09:00 am to 12:30 pm at the computer lab in the Faculty of Management and Finance. The workshop was graced by the Co-Founder of MintHRM, Mrs. Thanuja Masakorala. The students were able to acquire hands-on experience on the HRIS under the guidance of two resource persons and five session instructors from MintHRM. The knowledge and skills acquired through this workshop have undoubtedly had a significant impact on our students' understanding of HRIS.
IFODLC 2022 Winners
"IFODLC 2022" is an inter-faculty orator, dance, and literature competition organised by the Cultural Center of the University of Ruhuna. The students from the Faculty of Management and Finance participated in the competition, representing the faculty. We congratulate the students who brought the win to the Faculty of Management and Finance with great pleasure. Gayani Rajapakshe, a first-year undergraduate in the Faculty of Management and Finance, who participated in the literature competition under the category of "Short Stories", has been able to bring 1 st place to the Faculty of Management and Finance. Further, G.A. Binuli Yashali Perera, a first-year undergraduate in the faculty of Management and Finance, who participated in the literature competition under the category of "Lyrics Writing", has been able to bring 2 nd place to the Faculty of Management and Finance.
On and Above Virtual Lab powered by Mint HRM
Department of Human Resource Management and Infoseek Pvt Ltd collaboratively organized an all-inclusive 10 weeks course on HRIS “On and Above Virtual Lab powered by Mint HRM’’ to third and fourth year Human Resource Management specialized undergraduates to shape up their technical skills and give exposure to performing better in the industrial world. The first session was held on 11th August 2021 from 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm via zoom. The resource person of the session was the Co-founder of MintHRM, Mrs. Thanuja Masakorala. The Head of the Department of HRM, lecturers and more than 140 pre-registered students in the Department of HRM participated in the session.
Marketing Ethics and Energy Industry
The second session of the Marketing Ethics workshop series organized by the Circle of
Marketing, was held on 5 th July 2022 from 11.00 a.m. onwards via Zoom. Mr. Akila Gunarathna who is the Head of Finance at Resus Energy PLC was the resource person of the session. Mr. Gunarathna shared his experiences and expertise in the field of marketing ethics and it was a very fruitful and interactive experience sharing session.
A workshop on Business Plan Development
A two-day workshop on 'Business Plan Development' for the subject of Venture Creation, organized by the Department of Management and Entrepreneurship was successfully held on 29 th January and 30 th February 2024 at MFLT 3A at the faculty. The target group for the workshop is 2000 level undergraduates in Department of Management and Entrepreneurship. Dr. Jayampathi Kumasaru, senior lecturer, Department of Management and Entrepreneurship, Faculty of Management and Finance and Mrs. Deepika Dissanayaka, Lecturer, Department of Management and Entrepreneurship, Faculty of Management and Finance were the resource persons of the workshop. A panel discussion on ‘making most out of internships’, organized by the Department of Marketing at the Faculty of Management and Finance for final-year undergraduates was conducted via Zoom on 06 th of April 2021. The session was rolled out to provide the undergraduates with an opportunity to listen to the professional career narratives of three proud products of the Department of Marketing, Faculty of Management and Finance at University of Ruhuna. As such, Mr. Ashoka Liyanage from TV Derana, Mrs. Oshadee Gunasekara from Singer Sri Lanka PLC, and Mr. Ruwan Wickramaarachchi from CBL group participated in the panel discussion as panelists.

Outbound Training – 2022
‘Outbound Training - 2022’ was an action and activity based behavioral training intervention for students leadership and personality development based on experiential learning methodology of learning through fun and experience. Session was organized by the Department of Human Resource Management in collaboration of Career Guidance Unit held on 16 th & 17 th of June 2022 from 6.30 am to 9.30 pm in the university premises. The session was opened for the final year undergraduates in the
Department of Human Resources Management. The program was streamlined with adventure and challenging Team Activities where students had to go through obstacles and work together as a team to overcome challenges and learn from their experience, feelings and reflection. The main focus with the Outbound Training approach was to impart learning on organizational needs such as Leadership, Strategic Thinking, Conflict Management, Team Building and Effective Communication.

The Tax Seminar
As a result of collaboration between Mosvold-Martinus Foundation and the University of Ruhuna, the main library has received ten laptops. With these resources, the main library at University of Ruhuna has started a laptop lending service to provide undergraduates studying at Wellamadama premises with an opportunity to use a laptop within the library. The undergraduates can borrow a laptop for three hours at a time, from 9.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. on weekdays. The laptops can be loaned at the Sri Lanka Collection of the main library, and students need their university ID card or the record book to borrow a laptop.

Decide Your Next Step
An online session, namely “Decide Your Next Step”, organized by the Unilever Sri Lanka in collaboration with Human Resources Development Circle at University of Ruhuna was conducted via Zoom on 22 nd of May 2020 from 5.30 p.m. to 6.30 p.m., with the participation of nearly 200 participants. The session was hosted by Keshavi Puswewala, HR Business Partner, Corporate Function and R&D Employer Brand Lead, Sri Lanka, and the aim of the session was to guide undergraduates toward making a better choice in deciding the path for their dream career.
Plantation Challenge
Circle of Human Resource Development (HRD) organized a home garden tree plantation challenge to motivate the university community to add value to their spaces through planting a tree, which would ultimately act as a lifelong investment. Academic staff and undergraduates of the faculty, and undergraduates representing the other universities in Sri Lanka took part in this tree plantation drive through planting saplings at their home garden and sending a snapshot to publish in the official Facebook page of HRD circle at University of Ruhuna. The winner/s of the tree plantation challenge is/are declared based on the engagement of the each snapshot on the official Facebook page of HRD circle.

Welcoming Newbies to the HRM
The Department of Human Resource Management together with circle of HRD conducted a virtual session via Zoom on 22 nd of July 2020 from 2.00 p.m. to 2.45 p.m. to officially welcome the new comers to the HRM specialization area, with the participation of academic staff and the HRM major undergraduates. The welcoming ceremony was of greater importance for new students to become familiar with the new learning environment, and provided new comers with an encouragement and a momentum to continue their future studies in the field of HRM.
A Workshop on Photography for Socio-Emotional Skills
The ELTA-ELSE team at the faculty conducted a workshop on 02 nd of October 2020 at the Mini Conference Hall, Department of Economics, University of Ruhuna to develop the curriculum for the proposed photography for socio-emotional skills course. Mr. Prageeth. M. Aluthwattha from University of Kelaniya, Mr. Nalaka Wijewardhane from Sri Palee Campus, University of Colombo participated in the workshop as the resource persons. The workshop assisted to bring and scrutinize the diverse perspectives of the participants in a common forum.

INQUEST 1.0
The Circle of Accounting conducted a series of online sessions on research professionalism, namely INQUEST 1.0 with the aim of promoting a research culture among undergraduates at the faculty. In INQUEST 1.0, six sessions on different aspects of research were successfully conducted by an experienced panel of lecturers of the Department of Accounting and Finance during September-November 2021. Each session had a participation of more than 100 students representing the Faculty of Management and Finance, UoR and other universities of Sri Lanka.

A workshop on examination process/procedures, including best practices of paper setting, moderation and marking was held on 19 th of August 2020 from 9.00 a.m. to 12.00 noon at MFLT, with the participation of academic staff at the faculty. Professor H.S.C. Perera, Dr. M.K. Wanniarchchige, and Dr. A.B. Sirisena acted as the resource persons of the workshop, in which the aim was to provide academic staff with more understanding to how to align program learning objectives with the intended learning objectives of the course units, how to set the examination questions, and how to mark the examination papers with a well-developed marking scheme..
A Workshop on Examination Manual
A workshop on examination manual was held on 17 th of August 2020 from 10.00 a.m. to 02.00 p.m. at MFLT 5, with the participation of academic and non- academic staff of the faculty. The workshop was a discussion type session in nature and, aimed at obtaining staff inputs on the revised examination manual while providing staff with a platform to become familiar with the procedures specified in the manual. The session was coordinated and conducted by Manjula K. Wanniarachchige, Senior Lecturer, Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna.
Kavyamaya Dhamma Deshanawa
In the tradition of dhamma dana and pausing to direct one’s mind towards higher spiritual goals, the Circle of Human Resource Development organized a dhamma sermon, namely "Kavyamaya Dhamma Deshanawa" on 27th of February 2020, for academic, non-academic and undergraduates in Faculty of Management and Finance. An erudite sermon delivered by Venerable Sunanda thero commenced at 4.00 p.m. and continued till 5.00 p.m. at the Buddhist shrine room located in front of the Library of University of Ruhuna. This meritorious event was graced at a high level of faculty administration, with the participation of Dr. T.S.L.W. Gunawardhana, Dean of the Faculty of Management and Finance.

The extended session was instrumental in enlightening the undergraduates on the versatility of digital marketing and how this versatile discipline could be adapted to event marketing.

“Marketing Ethics and Modern Trade” was another important session of the Marketing Ethics guest lecture series organized by the Circle of Marketing, Department of Marketing, Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna. The resource person of the session was Ms. Nilusha Fernando, Head of Marketing, Jaykay Marketing Services Pvt. Ltd. The session was held on 05 th August 2022 at 5.00 p.m. onwards via zoom platform. The practice of Marketing ethics in the supermarket industry was discussed during the session and it was concluded with a great success.
A Guest Lecture
A guest lecture on “HR practices for Contemporary Organization Context and Future Trends” organized by the HRD circle was successfully held on 28th of July, 2019 from 8.30 a.m. to 12 .30 noon at MFLT 02 with the participation of students in HRM specialization area and the staff. MR Senaka Muhandiramge acted as the resource person of the guest lecture. The guest lecture provided students with experiential knowledge about contemporary organizational HR practices and future HR trends in the world of HRM.
Digital Edge 2.0: 1 st Guest Lecture
The Circle of Marketing has planned to conduct a series of guest lectures, namely 'Digital Edge 2.0' under the theme of' Digitalize with Experts&', to provide students with a practical perspective to digitalization and its implications on marketing. The very first guest lecture of the Digital Edge 2.0 was conducted on 25th October 2021 from 5.00 pm onwards via Zoom, with the
participation of marketing major undergraduates at the faculty. The session was centered on 'Introduction to Digital Marketing' and continued for one hour, with the active involvement of the participants. The guest speaker, Mr. Nisal De Silva, Director of Digital Strategy at Cinnamon Hotels, a certified digital lecturer in Sri Lanka, shared his expertise and experiences on the latest technologies in the context of digital marketing, making the session fruitful.

‘Freshers’ Blooms 2020’, a talent show organized by the faculty for freshers, ended with a remarkably enjoyable evening on the 17th of January 2020 at the open theatre near the university library premises. Being a part of the orientation program conducted for the new students, the talent show was involved with new students as well as the academic and non-academic staff, symbolizing harmony and unity among all members of the faculty. The Digital Disruption 2019, organized by the faculty was held on 16th of August 2019 at Weligama Bay Marriott Resort & Spa. The event was aimed at creating a platform to explore opportunities available in the modern digital economy. Health and Safety Management Practices in an Organizational Context- Guest Lecture
In line with the HRM 22413- Safety and Health Management subject, The Department of Human Resource Management organized a guest lecture on " Health and safety management practices in an organizational context. The session was organized with the purpose of providing the knowledge and understanding of 2000-level human resource management specialized undergraduates regarding how health and safety management practice in a real organizational setting. A CSR Project
In parallel with the නැනාභිවර්ශා second anniversary celebration of the Department of Human Resource Management, the Circle of Human Resource Development organized a CSR project on 01 st of November 2021 in an attempt to assist rural schools with insufficient facilities to carry out their educational activities smoothly. In here, almost all HRM-specialized students actively contributed to this through collecting storybooks/other stationery items and donating them to the students at Ambilipitiya Sudarshana Vidyalaya and MR/ Sumana Junior School. Considering the present situation triggered by the Covid -19 pandemic, we took necessary actions to limit the participation in implementing this initiative.
Field Visit -2024
The Department of Human Resource Management organized a one-day field visit on the 8 th of February 2024, for 3000-level HRM Specialization students of the Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna. The students visited Bodyline (Pvt) Ltd, a joint venture of MAS Holdings which is one of the largest apparel sector organizations in the South Asian Region that has nearly 8000 workforces. The organization has an unbreakable reputation for its application of standard HR practices and a sustainable working environment. The Entrepreneurship Study Circle hosted "Department Welcome 2024" to warmly introduce new students to the Department of Management and Entrepreneurship. Held on 6 th November 2024, at MFLT 06, the official welcome ceremony included inspiring speeches from the Head of the Department and a range of interactive activities organized by the Entrepreneurship Study Circle.
The event was attended by all academic staff and all undergraduates majoring in Entrepreneurship, creating an engaging atmosphere that encouraged meaningful connections. Through networking sessions and open discussions, new students had the chance to interact with faculty, build friendships with peers, and gain valuable insights into the department’s values and opportunities, setting the tone for their entrepreneurial journey ahead.

A workshop on Assignment Writing was successfully held at MFLT 05 on the 06th of November 2024, which was organized by the Department of Accountancy. The Faculty of Management and Finance organized the "Faculty Day 2019" on 30th of January 2019 at university playground. The “Faculty Day 2019” kicked off at 8.00 in the morning and continued till 6.00 in the evening. The event was a great success with the active involvement of the participants; academics, non-academics, and undergraduates. Through providing an ideal platform to break the wheel of monotony for a while, the event helped participants to strike a balance between routine and extra-curricular activities.

The Circle of Human Resource Development in collaboration with the Department of Human Resource Management successfully organized the "Yum Yard" Food Stall at the University premises on the 12th and 13th of December 2024 from 7:00 AM to 6:30 PM. Student teams demonstrated unwavering dedication and commitment to fulfilling the demands of this two-day event. Among the culinary highlights was the authentic taste of "Hoppers," which proved a resounding success with a diverse clientele, solidifying its reputation as a crowd favorite. Other popular offerings included delectable ice cream, Nescafe, and chickpeas. Beyond serving delectable treats, this student-led initiative served as a valuable platform for fundraising, with proceeds earmarked for future student development programs.

The Department of Finance organized a guest lecture, giving a great opportunity to the students of the Faculty of Management and Finance to get familiar with Microsoft Power BI. The session was conducted by Mr. Lasantha Gamage, the managing director of LDW Accounting and Business Service Pty Ltd in Perth, Australia. He is an expert in large ERP systems and the Microsoft Office suite, having been exposed to the health service, mining and gas, manufacturing, and construction sectors. The session was held on 18 th November 2022 via the Zoom meeting platform and it was a highly successful session in sharing knowledge and experience on data analysis using Microsoft Power BI.

A workshop on sexual and gender-based violence was held on 7th of January, 2020 at the faculty premises; MFLT 05. Dr. Shamala Kumar from University of Peradeniya served as the resource person of the workshop and, the event kicked off at 10.00 a.m. The workshop was basically aimed at educating participants about gender equity and, sexual and gender-based violence. IThe Circle of Human Resource Development (Circle of HRD) of the Department of Human Resource Management at the University of Ruhuna successfully concluded Athwela 2025 – Phase 5 on 25th July 2025. This annual CSR initiative focused on uplifting the educational experience of students and fostering a sense of encouragement for their future aspirations.This phase centred on MR/Sri Medhankara Maha Vidyalaya, a rural school facing significant resource constraints, with 250 students and 35 teachers. Recognizing the need for support, the project provided books, stationery, and school materials, aiming to ease the burden on students and enhance their learning environment
The main program was conducted at the school premises, bringing together the university undergraduates, lecturers, teachers, and students in a collective effort to make the event meaningful. The Department of Management and Entrepreneurship organized a one-day study tour on 11th July 2025 for 3000-level Entrepreneurship specialized undergraduates of the Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna. Workshop on Financial Reporting: Enhancing Transparency and Decision-Making
On 10th July 2024, the Department of Finance organized an insightful online (Zoom) workshop on Financial Reporting. The session was conducted by Professor A.R. Ajward from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura and was coordinated by Mr. Kasun Harshana, Lecturer (Probationary).
42 students specializing in finance participated in the session. The workshop successfully equipped participants with a comprehensive understanding of financial reporting principles and standards. It emphasized the importance of transparency in financial reporting, highlighting its impact on stakeholder trust and confidence. Additionally, the session covered the latest trends and challengesin financial reporting, including regulatory changes and technological advancements.
Leadership Training Program

The program utilized an experiential learning approach, emphasizing the importance of learning through engaging activities and enjoyable experiences. Session was organized by the Department of Management and Entrepreneurship in collaboration of Career Guidance Unit held on 10th May 2023 from 6.00 am to 6.00 pm in the university premises. The session was targeted for the 3000 level and 4000 level undergraduates in the Department of Management and Entrepreneurship. The English Club of the Department of Human Resource Management, University of Ruhuna, hosted Speaksphere: The English Camp on 04 th June from 1:30 PM to 5:30 PM at the University Gymnasium, exclusively for HRM undergraduates.
The main goal of Speaksphere was to create a supportive space that builds both English language skills and essential soft skills. Students actively participated in a range of creative, skill-building activities, including team discussions, group challenges, storytelling, and public speaking. Fun Evening – happy Clips, entertaining event successfully held on 01 st November 2022 from 2.00 PM onwards for 2000 level and 3000 level undergraduates of Department of Management and Entrepreneurship at the faculty premises. "Entrepreneurial Dialogue 2022" organized by the Department of Management and Entrepreneurship and the Entrepreneurship Study Circle for the 2000 level and 3000 level entrepreneurship specialized students was successfully held on 01 st November, 2022 at the faculty premises. Mr. Dulanjana Withanage, CEO of Jack Fruit Ceylon Pvt Ltd and Mrs. Anusha Warnakula, CEO of Susinidu baby care products were the resource persons of the session and, they were able to make the environment more conducive. The students were keen in interacting with the each throughout the session, thus, resulting in a massive success in the workshop.
A Workshop For the Faculty Development
The inaugural event, 'Premier Pas 23' organized by the students of the Department of Finance, was held on 6 th December 2023, from 1.00 p.m. to 4.00 p.m. at the university gymnasium. The lecturers from the Department of Finance graced the event as special guests. The event featured a variety of entertaining activities, including fun games, dance performances, music, speeches, and more. The primary objective of fostering a strong bond among the first batch of finance students was effectively accomplished. A special expression of thanks was extended to all the lecturers and students of the Department of Finance for their invaluable contributions to 'Premier Pas 23'.
Outbound Training Program- 2024
The Outbound Training Program (OBT) with a Bonfire Night was an action and activity-based behavioral training intervention for HRM-specialized undergraduates, organized by the Circle of Human Resource Development, Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Management and Finance, in collaboration with the Career Guidance Unit. It was held on the 23rd of October 2024 from 6.00 am to 10.00 pm at the university premises. Luminary 2023
Luminary 2023 - The welcome program of the Department of Marketing for the 2020/2021 Batch was successfully held on the 14th of November 2023 at the Gymnasium from 8.00 a.m. onwards. The program was organized by the Circle of Marketing. Luminary took a new phase this time not limited to the lecture hall. The program consisted of physical fitness activities and team-building activities for students. The main aim of the program was to develop students' communication, leadership, and teamwork skills.

The session was conducted by Mr Adrian Fernando, Talent Consulting Specialist at EMAPTA on 5 th August 2021 from 1.30 pm to 3.30 pm via Zoom with more than 250+ participants.
On & Above HRIS : HRIS Solution Analysis Adaptation & Managing Change
Department of Human Resource Management and MintHRM collaboratively organized an all-inclusive 10 weeks course on HRIS “On and Above HRIS-Virtual Lab powered by Mint HRM’’ to third and fourth-year Human Resource Management specialized undergraduates to shape up their technical skills and give exposure to performing better in the industrial world. The seventh session was held on the 13th of October 2021 from 7.30 pm to 9.30 pm via zoom. The resource person of the session was the Co-Founder of MintHRM, Mrs. Thanuja Masakorala. Lecturers of the Department of HRM and more than 125 pre-registered students in the Department of HRM have participated in the session.
A Workshop For the Faculty Development
“My Dissertation Journey”, an experience-sharing session organized by the Department of Management and Entrepreneurship, was held on October 5, 2023, from 6.30 pm via Zoom. Then session was conducted by Mrs. A.S. Munasinghe, Temporary Assistant Lecturer, Department of Management and Entrepreneurship, Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna.n During the program, she shared her experience on how time and other precious resources should be effectively utilized to successfully complete the final year dissertation with final year undergraduates of the Faculty of Management, University of Ruhuna. Her session proved to be fruitful, as students gained valuable knowledge and insights that will undoubtedly assist them in their journey to successfully complete their final year dissertations.
My Dissertation Journey
The Circle of Human Resource Development, University of Ruhuna successfully conducted a research experience sharing session titled “My Dissertation Journey” for the final year undergraduates of the Faculty of Management and Finance to discuss how time, resources, and interests can be used to benefit the final year dissertation. Ms.Nisansala Maduwanthi, Lecturer (probationary), Department of Human Resource Management, University of Ruhuna, hosted the session on 11th of June 2021, from 6.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. More than 200 undergraduates participated in the virtual session. Within an hour, she recounted her undergraduate research experience, and the following time was set aside to address students' queries on final year dissertation.
A Stakeholder Meeting
A stakeholder meeting on the proposed Bachelor of Business Administration in Tourism and Hospitality Management Degree program was held on 30 th of July 2020 from 9.00 a.m. to 12.00 noon at the Boardroom, Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna, with the participation of nearly 20 experts representing both the academia and the industry. The primary\ objective of the workshop was to obtain the expert inputs to develop the proposed degree program, which would meet the needs in the field of tourism and hospitality management.

In this meeting executive officers were appointed for the academic year 2021/22 and discussed initiatives for executions throughout the coming year. Prof. P.A.P.S.Kumara, the Dean, Faculty of Management and Finance, Dr. B.L.Galhena, the Head, Department of HRM, Dr. R.M.Rathnayaka, Senior Lecturer, Department of HRM, and Mr. R.M.D.D.Rathnayake, Senior Lecturer, Department of HRM addressed the meeting. Awareness session for the internship
ICTA team at the faculty together with A virtual awareness session for the internship course unit was organized by the Circle of Accounting on the 13th September 2022. The target audience of the session were the final year undergraduates of the Department of Accountancy eligible to start their internship training from 19th September 2022. The main objective of the session was to provide an overview of the requirements to successfully complete the internship course unit of the degree program. A consultative workshop on proposed Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) in Business Law Degree program at the faculty was held on 23 rd of July 2020 from 8.45 a.m. to 3.45 p.m. at the Sri Lanka Institute of Development Administration, Colombo 07, with the objective of obtaining professional expertise to expand the proposed syllabus to match with the graduate profile, objectives and outcomes of the program. An MoU between UoR and CIPM
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the University of Ruhuna (UoR) and Charted Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM) was signed at the Vice-Chancellors’ office, University of Ruhuna on 18 th of January 2021. The objective of signing this MoU was to commence a partnership on educational cooperation between UoR and CIPM. Senior Professor Sujeewa Amarasena, the Vice-Chancellor of UoR, Professor P. A. P. Samantha Kumara, the Dean, Faculty of Management and Finance, Dr. B. L. Galhena, the Head, Department of Human Resource Management, academic staff of the Department of Human Resource Management, Mr. U. A. C. Obeysekere, the Chief Executive Officer of CIPM, and the Executive Council members of CIPM participated in this occasion.
A guest lecture on Corporate Entrepreneurship
A guest lecture on “Corporate Entrepreneurship” was organized by Dr. Fauzul Mafasiya. The session was successfully held online via Zoom on 30th August 2021 from 9.00 am to 11.00 am. The session was opened for the undergraduates in the Department of Management and Entrepreneurship. A Series of Workshops
The Department of Marketing is in the process of conducting a series of online workshops to provide students with exposure to the industry practices. The workshop series will be organized in partnership with some reputed brands ,which have implemented signatory campaigns during the past few years. The very first session of the series on Signal Sina Bo Wewa campaign, hosted by Mr. Chetaka Gunawardane, Senior Brand Manager (Lifeboy) of Unilever Sri Lanka was held on 28th of April 2020, with the participation of more than 100 participants representing undergraduates from different universities in Sri Lanka.
AGM of the TUFMF
The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the TUFMF was held on 23rd of January 2019 from 12.00 noon to 2.00 p.m. at the University Guest House with the participation of more than half of its members. The AGM provided members with an opportunity to mingle with each other thereby breaking the wheel of monotony for a while. After presenting the detailed information for the last year activities at TUMAF, the president thanked members for their unrelenting dedication and effort on activities atTUFMF. HRM specialized undergraduates had an opportunity to take part in a two-day field visit to Hirdaramani KNIT Mihila, Agalawatta, and Academy of Adventure, Belihuloya during 28thFebruary to 1st of March 2019. The field visit was organized by the Circle of HRD to provide students with an exposure to HRM in practice (Hirdaramani KNIT Mihila, Agalawatta), and engraving students’ latent skills through offering them with a platform to engage in adventurous activities (Academy of Adventure, Belihuloya).
Investing in the stock market
The 2nd webinar on ‘investing in the stock market’ organized by the Circle of Accounting was conducted on 19th November 2021 from 3.00PM to 4.00PM via zoom. The session had a good level of participation of BBA undergraduates of the faculty.
The webinar was themed as "a practical approach to invest in the Share market" and continued for one hour. The guest speaker, Priyantha Heenpella, Executive, Colombo Stock Exchange shared the updates and experiences of Investing on the stock market.
The 25th general convocation
The 25th general convocation of the University of Ruhuna was successfully held on 07th & 08th of September, 2018 at the Rabindranath Tagore Memorial Auditorium at the University of Ruhuna for the conferment of the Special, General and Postgraduate degrees of the University of Ruhuna. The event is held ceremonially in every year to confer the degrees to students who have completed their respective degrees. Circle of Human Resource Development, Department of Human Resource Management organized a year-end intra- faculty volleyball championship on 28th December 2022 from 1.00- 6.00 pm at the university of Ruhuna main stadium. By representing each department of the Faculty of Management and Finance student team competed in the volleyball championship and the championship was won by the 1st year team of the Faculty of Management and Finance in three sets to one.
Meet the Marketers 2.0
The second session of the 'Meet the Marketers'; online webinar series organized by the Department of Marketing was rolled out on 13 th May 2020, with the participation of more than 100 participants. Mrs. Dulanganee Mathugama, Brand Manager at Hemas Manufacturing conducted the session on the recently implemented digital driven advertising campaign for the new Clogard tooth gel variant. This interactive session paved the way for the undergraduates to learn and question the aspects relevant to practically implementing a trendjacking campaign via social media.
HRM in International Context
An online session on “Human Resource Management in International Context”, organized by the Department of Human Resource Management was conducted via Zoom on 17 th of June 2020. The session kicked off at 5.00 p.m. and continued for duration of one hour. This was hosted by Mr. Thushara Balasuriya, Senior Manager- Talent/HR Admin, Siam City Cement (Lanka) Ltd. The 3000 level undergraduates major in Human Resource Management was the target group and the session was an absolute success, with the participation of nearly 50 participants.

AdCon 2019 Inter University Advertising Competition.
The Department of Marketing, Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna, holds the pride of organizing “AdCon”, the first ever advertising focused inter-university competition in Sri Lanka.
“AdCon” was in progress since September 2019 and was successfully completed as a multi-phase competition on the 6 th of February 2020. It enabled young undergraduates in the State University system to unveil their creative marketing skills while forming a strong platform for creating a sound relationship with the corporate sector of the country. The Department of Management and Entrepreneurship launched a leadership development program at H/Kahandamodara Secondary School as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts on 20 th December 2023. Awareness session on Microfinance
The Department of Finance successfully organized an awareness session on Microfinance practices at the Faculty of Management and Finance premises on 16 th January 2024 from 2:00 PM to 4.00 PM. Mr. Asanka Weerasinghe, General Manager, Matara District Thrift and Credit Co-operative Societies Limited (SANASA) conducted the workshop as guest speaker. Brainstorming Session for the 2000 Level Students
The Department of Business Management successfully organized a highly engaging and collaborative brainstorming session as part of the practical requirements for the Creativity and Innovation module, designed for its 2000-level students. The session, held on 1st January 2024 at MFLT 05, marked the first in a series of planned activities aimed at fostering practical exposure and innovative thinking among students.
This unique session brought together students from two distinct disciplines: 2000-level Business Management students and final-year students from the Department of Food Science and Technology, Faculty of Agriculture. New Student Intake at the Faculty of Management and Finance
Registration of new student intake at the Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna took place on 22 nd of February 2021. Due to the prevailing health crisis in the country, new students were grouped into fourteen (14) groups, where each consisted of less than fifty (50) students, ensuring that the social distancing was maintained at the student registration. Accordingly, 600+ students were enrolled to the faculty, which was almost a 50% increase compared to the previous student intake, signaling that the faculty is well addressing the growing demand for higher education. After registering the new students, they were provided with a guidebook on how to use the LMS at the faculty, which would set the foundation for effective learning in future. Additionally, the faculty student handbook was distributed among the new students, which would help them to become familiar with the faculty and the study programs.
Two Sessions on Introduction to Mediation and Moderation Analysis
In line with the Staff Development Action Plan of the Faculty of Management and Finance, the faculty conducted two sessions under the theme of “Introduction to Mediation and Moderation Analysis: A Regression-Based Approach”. The first session was held on 25 th March 2021 at the Faculty Computer Lab from 8.00 am to 12.00 noon with the participation of 36 academic staff members. Among the participants, 32 were from the Faculty of Management and Finance while the rest was from the Faculty of Science and Faculty of Agriculture. The second session was conducted on 08 th April 2021 from 8.30 am to 12.00 noon and 23 academic staff members participated in this session. Of the participants, 21 were from the Faculty of Management and Finance and 2 were from the Faculty of Agriculture. Mr. W.M.R. Laksiri from the Faculty of Management and Finance served as the resource person of the both sessions while the organizing was coordinated by Dr. G.T. Wasantha Sriyani, the SDC coordinator of the Faculty of Management and Finance. The two sessions were very advantageous for the participants to enhance their data analytical skills with SPSS, so that assisting in writing an impactful quantitative research paper.
Systematic Literature Review workshop
The Faculty of Management and Finance together with the Staff Development Centre (SDC) of the University of Ruhuna (UOR) have worked on several initiatives for empowering and strengthening its academic and academic supportive staff in their pursuit of teaching and research excellence. One of its endeavours, a workshop on the theme of "Increasing Publications through Systematic Literature Review (SLR) with Bibliometric Analysis" was successfully conducted on 21st June 2023. This workshop was organized by the SDC coordinator of the Faculty of Management and Finance with the support of the Ruhuna University Staff Development Centre as a virtual session and opened it for all the academic and academic supportive staff of the UOR. Wi-Fi Network Launch
The faculty launched a Wi-Fi network, so that providing users with a fertile opportunity to experience the wireless broadband connectivity for their academic purposes. The project was funded by Ministry of City Planning, Water Supply and Higher Education. The official ceremony in this regard was held on 25th of November 2019 at the faculty premises in the presence of senior professor Sujeewa Amarasena, Vice Chancellor, University of Ruhuna, Professor Saman Chandana, Deputy Vice Chancellor, University of Ruhuna, and Dr. Thusitha Gunawardana, Dean, Faculty of Management and Finance. The Alumni Association
The Alumni reunion was held on 15th of June, 2018 at the university guest house with a massive participation. The newly appointed office bearers and the partcipants were keen at the reunion as it provided them an opportunity to get rid of the routines for a while. An experience sharing session was organized by the Dept. of Management and Entrepreneurship on 26 th January, 2022 for all the undergraduates who are specializing under the Dept. of Management and Entrepreneurship. Mr. M.A.Chathushka, Founder of Aqua Nature Arts, who was also a proud product of the department served as the resource person and the session was organized by Prof. Sunethra Perera.
A two-day Workshop to Empower Small Scale Entrepreneurs
A two-day workshop organized by the Department of Marketing as a partial requirement of the course; Strategic Marketing, for the final year students was held on 8th and 9th of November, 2019 at the faculty premises. The aim of the workshop was to assist entrepreneurs from the Southern Province of Sri Lanka on marketing their products and services and, further, to mentor them in achieving their future goals. After scrutinizing the nature and the operations at the selected small business firms, the students developed and presented strategic marketing plans for the respective ventures on the first day of the workshop. The second day focused on implementation of a joint project with the involvement of the Department of Marketing, Samurdhi Authority, and the Central bank of Sri Lanka.
A One-day Field Visit
Department of Management and Entrepreneurship organized a one-day field visit to Jetwing Kaduruketha and Jetwing Yala to provide students with practical exposure on Agrotourism and their respective green practices. Through participating in the field visit, students had a chance to see how tourism and entrepreneurship work in tandem in the real world. As such, the field visit enabled students to enhance their knowledge of tourism by linking what they learnt in the classroom with practical applications.
AFinFO-2019
Accounting and Finance Industry Forum (AFinFO-2019), organized by the Department of Accounting and Finance together with National Economic Council (NEC) of Sri Lanka, was held on 25th of July, 2019 (08.00-17.00) at the University of Ruhuna. AFinFO-2019 targeted at strengthening the link between academia and the industry through bringing the leading policymakers, renowned businesspersons and academics in the field together to create a fruitful dialog. Prof. Lalith P. Samarakoon (Secretary General-NEC), Prof. Hareendra Dissabandara (Deputy Secretary General-NEC), Mr. C. J. P. Siriwardana (Deputy Secretary General-NEC), Dr. Ravi Liyanage (Chariman/CEO Raigam Group), and Mr. Raja Senanayake (Director, Serendib Finance PLC) delivered speeches at the event.
Ethics vs Businesses
“Ethics vs Businesses” was another important session of the Marketing Ethics guest lecture series organized by the Circle of Marketing, Department of Marketing, Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna. The session was held on 26 th July 2022 at 4.00 p.m. onwards via zoom platform. Ms. Kaushali Kusumpala, Director Marketing, Atlas Axillia Company Pvt. Ltd. was the guest speaker of the session. Ms. Kaushali shared her expertise and knowledge of marketing ethics related to stationary industry and the session was fruitful.
Workshop on Sensing Career Opportunities
Sampath Bank PLC, together with the Career Guidance Unit of University of Ruhuna and the Faculty of Management and Finance successfully conducted a one-day workshop on “Sensing Career Opportunities” for final year undergraduates at the Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna on 06th August 2018 at the auditorium of Fisheries and Marianne Sciences. The main aim of this workshop was to provide undergraduates with an in-depth awareness on the current Sri Lankan job market, expectations of the employers in 21st century, and setting career goals. The workshop was figure-headed by Dr. Lalith Weragoda, the Assistant General Manager of Human Resource who is an eminent alumnus of the University of Ruhuna.A Workshop on Branding
The Department of Marketing together with Softlogic PLC conducted a workshop on branding on 11th of September, 2018 from 01.00 p.m. to 06.00 p.m. at the MLFT 05. The workshop was aimed at providing participants with an understanding on practical world applications of the theories and concepts learned in the classroom. Mr. Nuwan Widyapathige, Ms. Kavi Rajapaksha,Ms. Chamindri Pilimatalauwe,Mr. Rajitha Gammanpila, Mr. Saminda Kumara, and Mr. Tuan Fareen Rajap acted as the resource persons of the workshop.A Workshop on Moodle
A workshop on how to use Moodle/LMS effectively, targeted at academic staff at the faculty was conducted via Zoom on 16th of May 2020 from 4.00 p.m. to 6.30 p.m., with the participation of more than 25 academic staff at the faculty. The prime objective of the workshop was to provide participants with knowledge on the advanced features of Moodle, so that they would not struggle to use LMS effectively. The session was conducted by Mr. Chandana Pushpakumara/ Instructor in Computer Technology, Mr. Samantha R. Liyanage/ Instructor in Computer Technology and Mr. Bhathiya Thambiliyagoda /programmer cum System Analyst.
A Workshop For the Faculty Development
A workshop for the faculty development was held on 09th of May, 2018 at the faculty board room, basically, with the intention of discussing the strategic plan of the university and the new degree programmes which are going to be introduced in the near future. The workshop provided academic staff memebers with a platform to share their diverse views.
The Workshop on Facebook as a Marketing Tool
ICTA team at the faculty together with Mr. Udara Dharmasena and Sithira Nandula from Neo@Ogilvy Sri Lanka; the Facebook ground support partner for training in Sri Lanka, conducted a workshop for the undergraduates at the University of Ruhuna on 12th December 2018 at the faculty premises. The workshop was conducted as a part of the ImagineIF entrepreneurial boot-camp. The workshop which was conducted under the theme of "Using Facebook as a Marketing Tool for Start-ups" basically aimed at educating participants on how to reap the maximum out of Facebook fan pages.
