Our University

The University of Ruhuna is one of the leading universities in Sri Lanka. The University of Ruhuna was established by a special Presidential Decree on 1st September 1978 as Ruhuna University college fulfilling a long cherished desire of the people of Southern Sri Lanka.

Our Faculty

The Faculty of Management and Finance was established in 2003. At present, it is one of the foremost faculties consisting of four Departments of studies namely Department of Entrepreneurship, Department of Human Resource, Department of Accounting and Finance and Department of Marketing, in addition to the computer unit and the e-learning centre. At present Faculty offers courses in a range of disciplines leading to Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA)Honours degrees.

Students

The students are provided with a friendly learning environment which encourages them to excel in one's field of study, and to achieve one's goals while maintaining strong personal relationships. The students are allow to exploit opportunities to engage in co-curricular activities at local and International levels.

ICME 2020

Faculty of Management and Finance , University of Ruhuna, one of the leading management faculties in Sri Lanka annually organizes the International Conference on Management and Economics (ICME) with the objective of creating a strong platform for academics, researchers and practitioners to exchange their knowledge in the field of Management and Economics.

Digital Disruption 2019

There will be brainstorming speeches with the intention of expanding the awareness on the concept, fueling up creativity and innovativeness to promote more opportunity creators than job seekers and real-life inspirational stories of entrepreneurs who expand the boundaries.

ADCON 2019

An advertising competition organized by the department of marketing, Faculty of Management and finance, University of Ruhuna which will enable the participants to bring out the hidden creativity within them.

PRESCO’25 – A Gateway to Professional Futures
PRESCO’25 is a career fair organized by the Circle of Marketing of the Department of Marketing, Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna which was successfully held on the 29th of July 2025. The event was conducted in collaboration with the Career Guidance Unit of the university, with the aim of bridging the gap between undergraduates and the corporate world. This event was made possible through the invaluable support of six prominent industry partners as DSI, Durdans Hospital, Nippon Paint, INSEE Cement, Vallibel Finance, and Ernst & Young (EY). The primary objective of PRESCO’25 was to provide students with direct exposure to leading companies and current industry trends. The event was successfully concluded, drawing active participation from both students and industry representatives. The overwhelmingly positive feedback from attendees reflected the event’s impact and affirmed its value and it encouraged to initiate PRESCO’26 with even greater enthusiasm and scale.
Stepping into a New Era with Business Technology in Higher Education

The Department of Management and Entrepreneurship, Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna, successfully organized an inspiring and future-focused online awareness session titled “Stepping into a New Era with Business Technology in Higher Education” on 23rd July 2025 at 7.00 p.m. The session was conducted by Professor Chaminda N. Wickramasinghe, who brought valuable insights into the evolving landscape where technology and entrepreneurship intersect to reshape business education.

Targeting 2000-level undergraduate students, the session emphasized the critical role of business technology in shaping the future of industries, highlighting how advancements such as Artificial Intelligence and data analytics are driving innovation and transforming organizational practices. Participants were introduced to a variety of prospective career paths in the technology-driven business world and gained a deeper understanding of the skills required to thrive in a rapidly changing global market.more

Guest Lecture– Legal Aspects of Entrepreneurship

The Department of Management and Entrepreneurship organized a guest lecture series under the course ENT 31203: Legal Aspects of Entrepreneurship for 3000-level undergraduates specializing in Entrepreneurship at the Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Ruhuna. The series, held in July 2025 under the theme “Building Legally Sound Business Ventures,” featured three insightful sessions led by Mr. A.J.M. Samantha Jayasundara, a senior lawyer with extensive experience in the field.
The lecture series aimed to give students practical knowledge of the legal challenges entrepreneurs encounter. Through interactive sessions, students discussed real-world legal issues, reviewed local case studies, and engaged directly with the resource person. This hands-on approach connected theory with practice, strengthened legal understanding, and encouraged critical thinking, preparing students to make well-informed decisions in their entrepreneurial careers.
ThAthwela 2025
IThe Circle of Human Resource Development (Circle of HRD) of the Department of Human Resource Management at the University of Ruhuna successfully concluded Athwela 2025 – Phase 5 on 25th July 2025. This annual CSR initiative focused on uplifting the educational experience of students and fostering a sense of encouragement for their future aspirations.
This phase centred on MR/Sri Medhankara Maha Vidyalaya, a rural school facing significant resource constraints, with 250 students and 35 teachers. Recognizing the need for support, the project provided books, stationery, and school materials, aiming to ease the burden on students and enhance their learning environment
The main program was conducted at the school premises, bringing together the university undergraduates, lecturers, teachers, and students in a collective effort to make the event meaningful. Contributions were gathered through the generous support of donors and well-wishers, whose assistance played a crucial role in realizing the objectives of this phase. more
